New Jersey councilwoman shot dead in her car

No possible motives have been released and authorities don’t believe it was politically connected

Sayreville, New Jersey – Eunice Dwumfour, a sitting councilwoman for the town of Sayreville was murdered while she sat in her vehicle Wednesday night.

An unknown assailant walked up to Dwumfour and shot her several times. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are investigating the shooting and believe that it does not have any connections to her political career.

ABC News has reported that New Jersey Governor, Phil Murphy, shared with reporters, “I am stunned by the news of Sayreville Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour’s murder last evening in an act of gun violence,” Murphy said. “Her career of public service was just beginning, and by all accounts she had already built a reputation as a committed member of the Borough Council who took her responsibility with the utmost diligence and seriousness.”

Dwumfour has been described by a number of Sayreville residents as a very friendly and outgoing person that was very interactive within the community. Mahesh Chitnish, a member of Sayreville’s Human Relations Committee, shared a photo of Dwumfour on Facebook and shared that she was his neighbor, and shot just feet away from his home.
